Calling Dr. Katz

Why is it so much fun to satirize psychiatrists? Because by nature, they are easy to satirize. And as the best satirists of all time can tell you there is a grain of truth in what you satirize or it wouldn't be funny.

Some of the lovable Viennese Head Thumpers have been Dr. Katz, Bob Newhart, and a wonderful sketch by Fry and Laurie. And now I would like to add another one to the pantheon. The video below is by my friend Kimbriel. Regular readers on the blogosphere might be familiar  with Kimbriel, she is a frequent commenter on Furious Seasons, Pharmalot, Beyond Meds, and Before You Take That Pill among other blogs. It's a little long, but worth a view, no matter if you are pro psychiatry or anti psychiatry.

That is freaking amazing! I'm coming off of Geodon because I don't believe I'm bipolar...I believe I was misdiagnosed at 22. I feel better now that I'm off of it than I have since before I was diagnosed. I wonder what my new shrink will say about that (I decided to come off my meds on my own and did it on my own).

Good you did that Deput's wife.

Dr. Katz is a psychoanalyst so they don't use drugs. I liked a lot.
Good you published this video.
I's been a long time I don't talk to Kimbriel. I hope she is fine.
Kisses to Holy.
( I found a bump in Nell's mammal. I scared. She had cancer three years ago.)

@Deputy's Wife, Good to see you back on the blogosphere! There has been a lot of news articles lately about bipolar being misdiagnosed or not being diagnosed correctly. I am behind in my blogging but will get to it. It's very possible you were misdiagnosed, but wait til you see your new shrink for validation.
Let me know what he/she says and how the meds are doing.

@Ana, I always thought Dr. Katz was a psychiatrist, but he always made me laugh. I haven't seen Holly in a very long time but hope to be reunited with her shortly. I will be thinking of Nell. I hope it's nothing serious.

@AdmGin, thank you! Glad you liked it!

OMG, this was the creepiest thing I have watched in a long time!! The way the shrink kept kind of sliding out of his chair seemed threatening... And when she did it I thought she was going to run screaming from the room!!! I kept thinking run, baby, run, He's crazy... LOL

Both disturbing (because it's true) and funny (again, because it's true). I've been off meds for y-e-a-r-s and I am CONVINCED they added to my depression and suicidal thinking. For me, drugs were the poison and not the answer...but I bet I bought some nice things for the people at the big pharma companies.

Ditto what Christa said.

If you ask "I am crazy", then you are not. Some people really need the medication, the ones who don't know the have a mental illness. "You don't know who you are." LOL... Medication should me a last resort.

After saying that, This is so funny, right, creepy, and can be true in some cases, but not all.

i had a very similar interview with a "Drug Cowboy" a couple of months ago. He kept assuming all kinds of thihgs about me. i was in tears practically the whole time and his big gesture of sympathy was to push the tissue box closer. Needless to say, i did not return.

Strangely, i had seen him for meds management about 3 years ago and he was like a totally different person!

Thank you for the video!

I think that Freud has been satirized a lot. Maybe because most psychiatrists are also getting counseling themselves?

Hilarious. Reminds me of the good old days when I felt like I was talking in circles with the shrink.

So, I do not really consider it may have success.
